Douglas Manufacturing Lagging

Lagging is a high-traction, rubber coating applied to a conveyor pulley. This layer separates the pulley from direct contact with the belt, reducing wear and boosting traction between the pulley-face and belt. 

Lagging plays a key role in the efficient operation of conveyor systems. Well made and properly applied lagging: 

  •  extends the life of the conveyor pulley
  •  shields the conveyor belt from abrasion
  •  increases friction to aid torque transfer

The advantages of lagging make it a no-brainer as an investment in your operation-critical machinery. Lagging can provide up to a 50% increase in coefficient of friction over non-lagged pulleys. Vulcanized Lagging

With vulcanized lagging, rubber protects the pulley from wear and extends the life of the pulley. Herringbone and diamond patterns in the grooves shed water and also act as a self-cleaning tool. 

Herringbone grooved lagging offers superior traction and is highly desirable. Each groove acts as an exit path for water and other debris. Herringbone grooved pulleys should be applied in the conveyor in a manner in which the grooves point toward the direction of belt travel. 

Diamond groove lagging also offers great traction and should be used on reversing conveyor travel. 

If no patterns are desired, it should only be used in an environment where assisting in watershed is not necessary. It will still perform other functions, like increased friction and increasing the longevity of the pulley.
